Pongo the Orangutan is a jazzy jungle man. He dwells in the Sumatran forests and is so similar to humans, from habits to DNA. He happily lives in his environment with an important job in keeping it alive in eating its fruits and dispersing its seeds. However with the destruction of the forests due to logging and plantations, he is facing extinction. The story was written in both English and Indonesian to create awareness for these great apes, with facts supported by the Sumatran Orangutan Society. Through the support from our sponsors The Orangutan Information Center, The SOS, The Pongo Foundation, The Singapore American School, Medan International School, Students of Cedar Classroom at Woodinville Montessori School, USA and The US Fish and Wildlife, 11,000 books have been printed and are being distributed to local communities throughout Sumatra. THE STREETS OF UBUD |
