Captain Freddie Cartoons are written and illustrated by Federico "Freddie" Elizalde III. The moniker "Captain Freddie" was developed because the author is a charter boat operator and a Royal Yachting Association certified skipper. The author is of Spanish-Filipino origin and sails between the Philippines and the island of Bali in Indonesia.

The author has a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities from the American College of Switzerland. He has studied life drawing, oil painting and ceremaic sculpture at the Honolulu Academy of Arts and cartooning at the University of Hawaii.

In Indonesia, the author is currently working with the Sumatran Orangutan Society, The Yak and The Bud magazines, the Ubud Community News, and the Magic Surf Magazine.
